Actor Typing Workshop - DULUTH
On Saturday, May 20, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm, I am conducting an Actor Typing Workshop, in Duluth. In it we will cover the importance of knowing your playable types, and how to translate that information to effective headshots, to increase your chances of being seen for roles you’re right for.
The biggest benefit of the workshop, and what we’ll spend the majority of our time on, is focusing on each actor individually to help define for them their playable types. That is, how they are perceived by those around them.
Actors will walk away with actionable, valuable, individualized information they can use to take their acting pursuits to the next level.

Connecting to Characters Through Monologues
Why do theaters ask actors to do monologues? Where do I look when I perform my monologue? Can I do a monologue written for someone different than me?
This acting class for teen and adult students of varying experience levels focuses on monologue work. We will cover industry expectations when doing monologues, different approaches to finding and selecting them, and acting tools students can use to connect with their chosen pieces to deliver unique and genuine work in class, auditions and performances.
Though the title and description refer to monologues, please know that this is an acting class with the intention of providing an approach to acting, whether on-camera or on stage, with reliable tools to help actors connect more deeply with their characters, while using monologues as material.
It is recommended that students come to the first class with a 1 to 2 minute monologue from a play or film with which they have a connection. It does not need to be memorized on the first day but students should be very familiar with them by then.
When: Mondays, October 31-November 28, 2022, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Where: Hopkins Center for the Arts, Classroom

Upping Your Game – Actor Tools Needed for a More Competitive Market
Hosted by SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local
Hosted by SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local
Now that Minnesota has a Film Production Tax Credit the state will begin to see larger productions return, which can increase opportunities for actors. Outside productions will increase professional expectations for actors. Find out how to be ready.
The first installment of Upping Your Game begins with what every actor needs to know, whether you’re just starting out or well into your career; your marketable “types” – how you are perceived when you walk through the casting room door. From there we discuss the tools actors use to market themselves; headshots (what to strive for and what to avoid), actor demos (the different types of demos and industry expectations), websites and business cards. We finish the session with auditioning, and how to be a better auditioner. Whether you are an actor working in a small or medium sized market, or preparing to relocate to a larger, more competitive market, the content we cover will be eye-opening and empowering. |

On Your Mark: An Evening of Self-Tape Essentials and On-Camera Audition Skills
It is vital that actors know how to submit a self-taped audition. With the accessibility of equipment, user friendly technology and the fast pace of the industry actors are frequently asked to submit a recording of their initial audition, and callback too sometimes, to be considered for film and TV work, and sometimes on stage. Because technology makes the world a lot smaller, self-tapes are especially useful when an actor is in a different location than those making the creative decisions.
As prevalent as the practice is, self-tape equipment and set-up options vary, and are determined by the actor’s budget and what they already have available. There is no one way to do it. But there are better ways.
In this workshop actors will gain an understanding of the basics of a self-tape set-up, along with best practices to follow when submitting themselves for projects. Actors will also be introduced to on-camera audition techniques they can apply to their self-tapes and when auditioning at casting offices.
This workshop is intended for actors of all ages. Actors under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent.
When: Monday, October 21, 7 - 9:30 pm
Where: Hopkins Center for the Arts, Classroom
Cost: $125
Capacity: 20
Who is this for? Actors who are being considered for on-camera work. Actors new to self-taping. Actors who are self-taping and want to up their game. Parents of child actors competing in other regional markets and nationally. Stage actors looking to compete in other markets.
